When I was starting to plan out my design I was trying to think of a way I could incorporate the extreme privacy and seclusion of the Sunrise Beach House in such a high density traffic and residential area. Also other factors that strongly influenced my design were constraints I came across whilst I was analysing the site. I knew I needed to somehow design a cabin that had as much privacy as possible and also keep to the designing style that Wilson Architects have incorporated with the Sunrise Beach House.
The first thing I decided was where on the site I would place my cabin design. I knew I needed to somehow do as much as I could about the sun path restrictions with the casting shadows, so I planned to design to the eastern end of the site to avoid as much of the casting shadow as possible. Although I would be locating my cabin design closer to the busy Victoria Park Road it wasnt going to make a great deal of difference and I knew I could counteract that problem to an extent like Wilson Architects did with the Sunrise Beach House. The Sunrise Beach House was also located on a busy road and to counteract the noise polution from the road the architect implemented concrete fencing to act as a sound barrier, but could also double as a privacy wall. I implemented this wall along the eastern and southern side of the cabin, this would stop noise from carrying through from the roads and residence on the southern side of the site. It also stops people from being able to see directly into the site as they pass it. By only using the concrete privacy walls on the eastern and southern side of the site I am not interrupting the wind flow that will be needed to cool the residence.
My design idea for the cabin was to try and make it as open as possible to allow for as much ventilation and flow through the house as possible much like the Sunrise Beach House. Because the wind hitting the site came from across the park it was hard to implement something that created privacy without stopping the flow of wind. To allow for air flow through the house, I designed the northern wall of the house with a series of louvres all the way along it, that way they can allow for 100% ventilation through them as opposed to a lesser 50%. I then decided I would use the same idea from the Sunrise Beach House with the timber external cladding along the northen wall. This will allow the airflow through the cabin, but also allow for more privacy from the Kulgun Park side of the site.
